Faith Promise Update - May 2022

Faith Promise Partners May 2022 Update

Christy & Zach Yoder (Wycliffe – Nigeria, W. Africa)

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Thank God
    • We asked for many church and mission leaders to come to the Missions and Bible Translation Consultation that several of our partners are hosting together.
      • We did not have many top leaders of denominations show up.  Thank God for the two that were present, and their strong interest in Bible translation.
      • Thank God for the enthusiasm of several leaders of smaller missions organizations showed up
    • We asked for God to use this to bring Bible translation to many of the two hundred languages in Nigeria that still need it.
      • Thank God for a clear and compelling presentation on the remaining need.  At our current pace it would take over 100 years to finish New Testaments in Nigeria!
      • Thank God for organizations that signed up to "adopt" a language.
    • We asked for unity and fellowship among the church, mission and Bible translation organization leaders
      • Praise God for a real sense of unity as people from many Bible translation organizations worked together to run the consultation! (Here is an private blog post where you can read more: Like oil on Aaron's beard)
  • Please pray:
    • For Christy to have enough time to fully participate in the coaching training (May 6-May 13) while she loves and nurtures her family
    • For wisdom for Christy as she coaches the young people God brings into her life
    • This week Zach announced a difficult decision to continue with a small cohort of staff joining our Nigerian Missionary Staff program in August-September.  Please pray for wisdom and good preparations.
    • For God to do as he pleases for his glory with the follow up to the Missions and Bible Translation Consultation including a forum of the Bible translation organizations that meets on Wednesday, May 18.
    • Zach recently heard that some people seek "work-life harmony" rather than merely "balance".  He is thankful for mentors, coaches and a supervisor training that help on this journey.  Please join us in praying for wisdom and harmony between the many elements of our lives!

John & Jean VanHemert (International Seafarers Ministry)

  • Please keep Pastor John and Jean Van Hemert in your prayers. For years we've supported them in their faithful mission to reach seafarers for Christ. Sadly, Pastor John was recently diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. The time for him to see his Lord face to face is drawing closer. Jean is suffering from declining cognitive abilities and needs special care. Their sending agency does not have a retirement plan setup for missionaries and have asked us to continue support. We're grateful that we're able to continue supporting them financially especially during this difficult season. Please keep them in your prayers.
