Christmas Devotional - Norma Eck

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

One of my most favorite verses in the Bible is Jeremiah 29:11. The plans God has for us may not be our plans but we can rest assured that His plans are the best plans, giving us hope and a future.

We use the word hope incorrectly most of the time. We use it to express a wish for something we are not sure will happen. ‘I wish I could afford a new car, I wish I could do this or that.” The Bible, however, uses the word to describe something that we can rest assured will happen. Hebrews 6:19: “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”

That hope was made possible through the birth of Jesus, through His life here on earth, through his death, resurrection and ascension into heaven. “Our hope is built in nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness,”

Hebrews 11:1 “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for.”

May this Christmas season again remind us of the Hope we have in the God of Hope. Through Christ we have the hope of eternal life. Praise God.
